The State Hermitage Museum and the International Ball Association present their first joint project.
The museum continues to combine different art forms. This time, an immersive experience unfolded after the museum’s closing hours.
Guests found themselves in the atmosphere of the nightlife of the Roaring Twenties. Upon entering the museum — already closed to other visitors — they were greeted by jazz compositions performed by vocalist Zoya Soboleva and had the opportunity to enjoy the exhibition “Packaged Dreams: Art Deco Fashion”, accompanied by its creators:
Nina Tarasova, Head of the Applied Arts Sector at the Department of Russian Cultural History;
Nazim Mustafaev, collector.
Next, the Jolly Pancakers jazz band took the stage, and the vaults of the Manege resounded with the sounds of saxophone, guitar, trombone, trumpet, bidon‑bass and kazoo.
A dance show began: the artists of the Plyaskin Group performed the key dances of the Art Deco era for the Hermitage guests — from foxtrot and swing to Argentine tango. During short breaks between performances, Mikhail Gribov, President of the International Ball Association and dance master, delivered lively and engaging talks about the history and distinctive features of each dance and musical genre.
